In true Island Style, the Martinez family requested a kid-friendly pool that would also serve as the ultimate stay-cation getaway in their backyard. Featured on Episode 6 of Insane Pools, this project came with a few surprises and on the fly design changes. The first was to incorporate 8 ton of turquoise Caribbean stone the Martinez’ had shipped to Florida for their pool! With a huge 60×80′ area to work with the pool uses 72 ton of Florida Limestone and incorporates 150 sq ft of beach area for the grandkids, along with another 100 sq ft of sandy beach bottom in the shallow end. The turquoise stone ended up making the firepit, a 2nd smaller water feature and accents for the back wall of the main grotto. A large limestone boulder with a massive natural hole creates the perfect privacy wall while adding to the tropical feel with a pygmy date palm growing through it. In addition to the pool the entire yard was extensively landscaped with tropical foliage, including adonidias, raphis, areca, cat and euro fan palms along with a hammock between two coconut palms in a special shell covered relaxation area. As a surprise for the clients, Lucas added a faux rock outdoor shower that matches the look of the pool.

Growing Pains

This full pool remodel project in Sarasota, FL came with a few specific requirements – use the existing pool, build within the footprint of the lanai cage, block traffic noise and be family friendly. Lucas Lagoons delivered just that and more for the pool featured on Episode 5 of Insane Pools. Using over 48 ton of Northern Tennessee Fieldstone, a 6 ft waterwall extends the entire length of the pool utilizing over 20 feeds to soften traffic noise and increase privacy. The existing pool was extended 10 ft, and 4 ft of unusable deck area became the grotto. An outdoor kitchen was added to facilitate entertaining next to the large grotto and built in “palm” island.

In Hot Water

At a massive 70×40 feet and wrapped in 2100 sq ft of travertine, this Paradise Preserve at the Taylor residence was featured on Episode 4 of Insane Pools. Taking over 72 ton of Tennessee Fieldstone, two 350 sq ft pools are connected with a mountain stream and large rock bridge over to the sitting area, which includes a cut glacial granite table. 600 sq feet of garden area compliment the functionality of the exercise pool – complete with 8 therapy jets and a swim jet. The main pool, with it’s seating area and firepit, create the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the Paradise Preserve.

Mountain Lodge Oasis

Mountains in Florida?! More specifically, the clients requested a Colorado feel for their new outdoor living space, aptly name Martin’s Rockies for Episode 3 of Insane Pools. In addition, the clients required a multi-level deck without handrails, a fire pit for an authentic family time and space for a hot tub. With an existing pond on the property, Lucas incorporated the view into the pool design, keeping with the outdoor camping theme. The grotto in the pool took 48 ton of Northern Tennessee Fieldstone, along with another 24 ton to complete the Colorado style landscaping, finished off with Cypress and Junipers to match the look. The multi-level deck consists of 800 sq ft of travertine around the pool and firepit on the lower level, stepping up to an additional 800 sq ft of low maintenance wood-look concrete pavers, with a full outdoor kitchen on the upper level.

Paradise on the Bay

Pankiw’s Paradise, as it was dubbed on Episode 2 of Insane Pools, is one of our new Modern Zen Minimalist Pool & Outdoor Living space. With a requirement to keep the majestic bay view on Snead Island Florida, Lucas Lagoons designed a negative edge spa and pool, centered around a 7 ft tall Oolite Monolith gas torch – artfully shaped and inset with an LED-lit soapstone channel. The large freeform spa, wrapped in hand-stacked beach pebbles, flows seamlessly into the 15,000 pool and completes the feeling of being right on the water. The pool includes a large sun shelf, 15 foot lit, stacked pebble waterwall, outdoor kitchen and plenty of travertine deck space, naturally complimenting this outdoor living paradise.

Swimming With The Fishes

Featured on Episode 1 of Insane Pools, this canal-side Northern Natural fieldstone lagoon pool on Siesta Key, Florida boasts a waterfall, grotto, koi pond and tiki hut beach area. As a full pool remodel, Lucas Lagoons was tasked with creating a natural outdoor living space that blends with the existing landscape and view. One client stipulation – there must be a pond to fit the family’s large Koi! The agreed upon lagoon pool and koi pond design has a special feature – a Bridge over River Koi – tying both the pool and pond together seamlessly. At about 20,000 gallons, this Florida lagoon project took over 48 ton of Tennessee Fieldstone, 1,000 Sq. Ft of travertine decking, 600 sq ft of sandy beach area, all built to enhance the water view while the tropical landscaping adds privacy. In addition, the 400 Sq Ft Koi pond took an extra 24 ton of fieldstone, plus a large capstone bridge, hiding the fact that the two are separate “ecosystems”. The project is finished off with a built in natural stone pool-side gas firepit, tiki hut, a hammock in the majestic coconut palms and an Aquaponics system that holds over 400 plants, all while cleaning the Koi pond!
